ABOUT

Jenny Holmlund (1975) aka JENNYVEXALA is a conceptual designer and artist blending crafts and art in her work.

JENNYVEXALA’s creations are made from waste materials from clothing and textile recycling.
The raw material is re-evaluated through experimental patchwork. Remnant of cloth is used as sketch base. Textiles are hand-painted and patterns are applied on worn out upcycled garments.

Despite an urban and contemporary expression the meticulous craftsmanship and utilisation of traditions serve as an important foundation in Holmlund’s creations. Her small-scale and personal production is characterised by innovative thinking and conscious efforts in respect of ecological and social sustainability.

Jenny Holmlund was born in Vexala in Ostrobothnia, Finland. After studying at the Nordic Art School in Kokkola she studied design at the School of Design and Crafts at University of Gothenburg, the city where she was based for more than 20 years. She moved back to Finland in the Autumn of 2021 and now lives in Helsinki.

MY VEXALA

The deeply rooted legacy.
The down to earth and sustainable.

The countryside, heritage and the tales of Vexala.

The winding paths and the bushed gravel roads.
Fields, forests, meadows and dikes.
Ditches and shrubs.

The barns and the outbuildings.
The smell of earth and old grass.
Fresh grass. Harvest grass.

Security and freedom in symbiosis.

We played. We planned.
We built our own lanscapes, huts and stories.

VEXALA is a peninsula and is located on the coast in Province of Western Finland.
Vexala is a an elongate area of land projecting into a body of water and nearly surrounded by water in the country of FINLAND.

On the east side you find an inner, idyllic archipelago with many soft rounded islets.
The further north you go, the more barren nature becomes with granite, gnarled pines and knotty hardwoods.
The sea lies on the west side with a mixture of beaches, dunes and cliffs.
